FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 27, 2007

Senator Browne Named to Legislative Audit Panel

Will serve as Senate Republican representative on bi-partisan commission

Senator Pat Browne was recently selected by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati to serve as the Senate Republican Caucus representative on the Legislative Audit Advisory Commission.

With his experience and expertise as a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Senator Browne was appointed to the Commission to move the General Assembly towards increasing the scope of its audits as a way to provide more transparency in state operations.

"I am honored by this appointment and look forward to working with the members of the Commission to review the audits of state operations," Senator Browne said. "The commission examines the standards of audits performed under the provisions of the Constitution of Pennsylvania and recommends measures for the improvement of pre-auditing and post-auditing of the financial affairs of the Commonwealth."

The Legislative Audit Advisory Commission was created in 1970 and is made up of eight members, a majority and a minority member of the House of Representatives and two public members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and a majority and a minority member of the Senate and two public members appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate.

The Commission is required to provide an annual report of recommendations and suggested legislation, if any, for the improvement of auditing in the Commonwealth, and particularly as it pertains to the Legislature.
