Senator Browne's Bill Bans Tax on BaseballSB 218 Restricts Allentown from Imposing Amusement LevySenate Bill 218, which received final legislative approval today, includes a key provision that prohibits the City of Allentown from levying an amusement tax on the sales of admission to professional baseball events, according to Senator Pat Browne, prime sponsor of the legislation. "This is an important and necessary provision that was part of the deal that brought professional baseball to Allentown," Senator Browne said. "It is essential that this provision be stated specifically in state law, so that there will be no misunderstandings in the future." The provision was amended into the bill by State Representative Jennifer Mann during House consideration of SB 218. "The effort to bring professional baseball to Allentown has involved the community and elected officials. The restriction imposed by SB 218 is part of that work," Senator Browne. "While we hope that professional baseball will be a catalyst for future economic development, we must also ensure that we take steps to keep ticket prices affordable for the average family."
